CEO Resignation

The Shire of Katanning Chief Executive Officer, Julian Murphy has resigned after 8 years in the role.  Mr Murphy is leaving to take up a new position as Chief Executive of the Shire of Plantagenet commencing in September 2023.

Mr Murphy acknowledged the support of the Shire of Katanning Staff & Council and President Cr Liz Guidera. “A great deal has been achieved by the Shire of Katanning in the past eight years through the hard work of both Council and the administration. I am proud of the solid position that we have established for the Shire of Katanning, and I believe that this is an appropriate time for me to seek new challenges,” said Mr Murphy.

President Cr Liz Guidera said Mr Murphy has overseen a period of extensive capital growth aimed at meeting the needs of current and future residents. Key achievements include the upgrade of the All Ages Playground and Lions Park, the building of the new Administration and Civic Centre, the development of Piesse Park, Great Southern Housing Initiative, and our Tourism initiative: Meet me in Katanning.

“Julian has successfully led the organisation over this time and worked collaboratively with Council Community, Staff and our Regional Neighbours. He provided essential leadership and support during the Katanning fire and floods”.

Wishing Mr Murphy well in his new position, Cr Guidera thanked him for his 8 years of dedicated service and his invaluable leadership during a period of significant growth and development for the community.

Council will begin the process to recruit a new CEO immediately.
