The Shire of Katanning is committed to recognising the value of all community organisations and has developed a clear and powerful vision of “Together we are building Katanning’s future”. Each year the Shire of Katanning allocates an amount of funds within the budget to provide financial support to the community.

Community Grants Program (CGP)
Round 1: Applications open 1 August 2024 – 10 September 2024
Round 2: Applications open 1 February 2025 – 31 March 2025

Each year the Shire of Katanning allocates an amount of funds within the budget to provide financial support to community organisations that meet the objectives of the Community Grants Program (CGP).
Three CGP categories are available to community organisations located within Katanning:
- Minor Community Grant under $5,000 (ex GST)
- Major Community Grant over $5,000 (ex GST)
- Triennium Community Grant (minor and major available)
The CGP application rounds are open each financial year. Round 1 being between 1 August – 10 September, with funding allocations announced following approval by Council in September.
If budgeted funds remain available, round 2 will open from 1 February – 31 March.
If your project requires hire of a Shire owned venue, please send a written request to the CEO for this before applying for funding. Should your request be unsuccessful, you may reapply through the CGP.
Objectives of the CGP
The CGP aims to support projects that promote community capacity, improve social participation and inclusion as well as enhance community harmony.
The Shire of Katanning's CGP provides funding to assist community groups and not-for-profit organisations with their vital work and programs to:
- Enhance community capacity, foster harmony, and promote social cohesion within the community;
- Motivate individuals and organizations to take initiative in supporting their own growth and development;
- Ensure equitable distribution of activities and services across Katanning; and
- Promote resident involvement in activities that enhance the community.
Please note: all funds are paid to successful applicants as a reimbursement i.e. after the event/purchase. Grant recipients are required to pay all relevant costs up front. Following completion of approved project, the successful applicants are required to invoice the Shire of Katanning for payment, ensuring all receipts from project costs, along with the completed final acquittal documents are attached. These are then sent to the Community Relations Officer for processing.

Quick Response Grants Program (QRGP) Up to $1,000
The Quick Response Grants Program (QRGP) provides quick response funding support for amounts over $500 and up to $1,000 each, to enable Katanning community-based organisations to develop projects that increase participation and benefit the community. Applications can be made at any time. Applicants are permitted to apply for one (successful) Quick Response Grant per financial year.
The Quick Response Grants Program is allocated from within Council’s CEO Donations budget each year with applications for funding approved by the CEO following recommendation by the Community Financial Assistance Committee. The program will support projects that take place within the current financial year.
Objectives of the QRGP
The objectives of the Quick Response Grants Program are to promptly support small projects that enhance community capacity, foster social participation and inclusion, and strengthen community harmony and cohesion.
The Shire of Katanning QRGP offers grants to assist community groups and Nonprofit organizations in their vital projects and activities, aiming to:
1. Foster community capacity, harmony, and social cohesion.
2. Empower individuals and organizations to take initiative in addressing community needs.
3. Ensure equitable distribution of activities and services throughout Katanning.
4. Promote resident engagement in activities that contribute to the well-being of the community.
