Welcome from the Community Youth & Development Coordinator
Hello! Welcome to the Shire of Katanning youth section. I’m Juaini (pronounced as ‘Jew-ay-knee’) your local Youth Development Officer. My job is to design and deliver youth programs for our local youth in Katanning. I have been living in Katanning for 6 years and originally from Bunbury. I really like it here in Katanning because the people are friendly, we don’t have traffic jams, don’t get parking tickets and we have everything we need in our small town.
I hope you will keep checking this section as I will try my best to update it each month. I believe Youth development is very important for small country towns, as the youth are our future and we don’t have a lot of entertainment for our youth like: ten pin bowling, time zone, adventure world, go karting etc. However we do have the best ‘all ages playground’ and weekly youth programs.
The Shire of Katanning depends on local youth and parents to voice out their ideas on what activities we should be running at the Leisure Centre or during the school holidays. We try our best to cater for different interest and we will try our best to run your ideas, however we also depend on volunteers to help promote and coordinate our programs and of course parents to encourage their children to attend so that we can ensure the program is a success and continues.
If you would like to contribute any ideas please contact me on 98219 999 or email: youth2@katanning.wa.gov.au
Regular Youth activities:
Rollerblading
It's Friday and that means ROLLER BLADING at the Katanning Leisure Centre!
Rollerblading is a lot of fun for everyone, and there are plenty of games and some prizes to be won, but we would like to clarify a few points so everyone is aware of when to come and what the rules are.
Times: Primary School Students from 4:00-6:00pm
High School Students from 6:30-8:30pm
Blades will not go out early, and you cannot reserve blades.
Any participant aged 12 and less need an ADULT to stay with them at ALL TIMES. No adult, no entry!
Everyone must sign a behaviour standards agreement before entering. Parent/Guardian name and phone number must be provided in case of injury or breach of rules. (Form attached.)
Costs:
Entry: $3.50 for non-member, Free for Gold Members
Blade Hire: $2.00
(IE: $5.50 for non-members blading, $2 for gold members blading, $3.50 for non-members playing sport, or bringing their own blades)
Spectators: $1.50
Basic Rules:
1) Shoes must be exchanged for blades. Blades must be returned to get shoes back. No shoes, no blades!
2) Bladers must wear socks!
3) All bladers are to remain on right-hand side of green net.
4) To ensure your safety, blades will NOT be worn up the stairs or up the ramp. (Remove your blades to come to canteen or toilet.)
5) All participants must sign a behaviour agreement before entering, and will supply their parents' name and telephone number. All participants are expected to behave with respect towards other participants, leaders, staff and equipment in line with the agreement signed. (Form attached.)
6) All children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Failure to comply with these rules means that staff will:
- remove participants blades for the evening, and/or
- contact parents and have participants removed from the premises for the evening, and/or
- have particpants banned from the Katanning Leisure Centre for 1-10 weeks depending on severity and frequency of offence.
Attached is a copy of the behavioural standard. If your child is coming to blading, it would be great if you could bring the completed form to speed up entry.
Hopefully with clarification of these rules we can ensure Friday night blading is a safe and fun event for everyone!
