A building licence is required to install a swimming pool. Applicants need to submit a site plan of their block showing existing buildings and distances from boundaries as well as specifications of the fence surrounding the swimming pool. The fence and gate needs to be a minimum 1200mm high with a maximum gap underneath of 100mm. The gate must swing outwards and the latch and latching device must be protected if lower than 1500mm. If an above ground pool is more than 1200mm high no fence is required provided there is nothing around the pool that could be used as foothold.
